Catching Predators

So there’s a Worldmagblog ad below for “To Catch a Predator.” My wife wonders why people want to watch that show. What appeals about it? I think it’s catching the bad guys. I’ve only seen short parts, but it’s shocking and appalling how many there are.

Which begs the question, in light of certain other questions: what makes this sin worse than others?

  1. This is a big deal because it is an element of our elder population preying on our youth.

Most civilized people, even non-religious who don’t understand true sin, have a problem with people who prey on other people. Especially children.

  2. Mark 10:14 Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. 16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.

Mt 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

Such an act can certainly serve to keep a child from Christ or at the least, shake his or her faith. (get the millstone)

  3. Just to be clear: *I* know why it’s worse; but some people have a habit of retreating to “all sin is the same” in certain arguments. That’s why the link.

  4. I wouldn’t involve the bible in this discusion. It should not be more complicated than it is, it is no surprise to anyone that there are people with rather interesting secrets behind their everyday personalities (what people do when their identity is no longer a factor). People’s actions will be diffrent from case to case, I would assume the biggest reasons why these people exist are because they have fetishes, and sextual fantacies, and there is the fact that it (underage sex/rape) is illegal, this might make it more tempting for them… insane? Perhaps… and most likley. Personaly I am not surprised that there are lots of these cases amock, In a world that focuses on controling the population, people are bound to break the rules, and at the same time there lies a larger population who shakes their head in shame at these people and often we chuckle when we find these people caught and humiliated on popular media. I laugh….. don’t you? – GIL
