Solution to the Oil Shortage/High Cost of Gasoline

If we went to Iraq for oil, why the heck aren’t we using it when gas prices are so high? I’m thinking we should prove the anti-war agitators correct, and use the oil in Iraq. That way, we could kill two birds with one stone: give the left-wing at least one thing to be right about; and, lower gas prices. What do you think, President Bush?

  1. The “Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq, House Joint Resolution 114 (Public Law 107-243)( states in Section 3:

“The President is authorized to use the Armed Forces of the United States as he determines to be necessary and appropriate in order to–
    (1) defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and
    (2) enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq.”

Nothing in there about taking Iraq’s oil without paying for it or paying less-that-market price.

Now if Congress were to have declared war against an oil-producing Islamist country for aiding the 9/11 attack (aka Clinton’s legacy), we could have including the cheap oil requirement in their surrender document (or, if no one was left, just gone in to get it after radiation levels returned to near-normal).

  2. It’s probably just Tim’s hierarchical view of the pastoral office that made him say that anyway. Next thing you know, he’ll be siphening gas out of the tanks of the members at church and saying George Bush said it was ok.
