The Proper Distinction Between Law and Gospel: Thesis III

“Rightly distinguishing the Law and the Gospel is the most difficult and the highest art of Christians in general and of the theologians in particular. It is taught only by the Holy Spirit in the school of experience” (C.F.W Walther, The Proper Distinction Between Law and Gospel reproduced from the German edition of 1897 by W.H.T. Dau (St. Louis: Concordia, 1986), 1).

  1. Yes and those of us not there yet, and want it badly, must sit and wait. Not only must I wait, but I must be horribly wrong before I get there.

  2. “School of experience” = Age and doing things wrong and living life, experiencing Christianity every inch of the way.
