The people who are leaving the church or withholding their money over this would have left anyway. They're the complainers. They gripe about everything. They hold their congregations and synods and the national churches hostage over whatever issue comes along, and if don't get their way, they leave.

They did this over the ordination of women.

They did this over civil rights for people of color.

They did this over mixed marriages.

They did this over relationships with other church bodies.

They did this over opening the ordained ministry to people with physical disabilities (who, as you remember, were not considered worthy models of the goodness of God's creation).

They have nothing to contribute. They fight, and stall, and force compromises, and when eventually they're on the receving end of the need to compromise, they leave. They can't stand to see other people not suffering.

The only thing sad about their going that their children will be the ones hurt, by being raised in churches where they'll hear only hate. May God help them.

Wow, there are sure some people who are hateful, over-analytical, and judgmental of Timotheos. Seems like you're doing the same thing to him that you accuse him of doing to Mr. Bazan. How interesting that calling for prayer for somebody struggling with their faith could be so attacked by pious, upstanding Christ-followers and Spiritual people.

God be with you Timotheos. Keep up the excellent blog.

Pr. Bameka,
God's blessings in our Lord, Jesus Christ! If you are looking for help, you probably want to contact the LCMS headquarters, for which you can find contact information at http://www.lcms.org

I am a Ugandan Lutheran Pastor, I have been serving the Lutheran Church Mission in Uganda for 8 years as the only ordained minister in the entire church. Three men were ordained Octeber 11th 2009, 5 more have finished their forth year at Lutehran Thelological Semminary in Tswane South Africa and return this November.

We are in the process of calling one of the three men to serve the Lutheran Congregation at Kampala and are in need of some guiding documents on the calli policy/system that is used by LCMS. We have had a good working relationship with LCMS for the last 15 years.

Good review.

Bazan went deep. Songs like "Letter From A Concerned Follower," "Diamond Ring," and "Slow and Steady Wins the Race" prove it. He understood orthodox Christianity well, it even gave him joy. I daresay it surely appeared that he even believed it.

But in his journey of questioning he ran into a wall, a mountain that none of us are able, nor allowed, to scale, the obstacle Paul addresses in Romans 9:14-24.

It's God's right to set the table. He made the table. He made the plates. He made the dinner, he made the guests.

In his pursuit of honest questions, honest answers, integrity, beauty and truth, Bazan made a mistake: he put God in the dock. Humility polluted by vanity.

Timotheos,

Kudos.

For being open and firm....and unashamed.

ps - Interesting comparison between Christianity and the other 'religions'. Something for me to ponder.

In the LCMS, a pastor has no time limit before he is eligible for a call, neither is he unavailable for any time after he has turned down a call. I have had several calls at the same time, and have gone years between calls. In my current parish, I doubt that I will get another call, simply because of my age.

but i know one thing: God hasn't stopped believing in him or loving him - He sees the heart and deep in there the "hook of His love" is still at work....
